House: Metaphor for a haircut.

Foundation: The basis of a haircut, starting with the consultation.

Pillars: Technical approaches that form the structure of different haircuts.

Rooms: Different types of haircuts.

Circa Cutting System (CCS): The overarching framework of our cutting approach.

Foundation: CPRBP

Stair Step: Method of removing bulk from the sides of the haircut with 1 to 2 guards. typically used in most skin fades. This may also be referenced as "raising the ceiling"

Fringe: the "bangs" of the cut. Identify this by sectioning a 1/4" section following the hairline. When cutting this be sure to release the tension before cutting to ensure the proper length. Also, note any cow licks or prominent parts of the hairline.

traveling guide: a method of cutting the top of the head. Wet the hair and make a 1' wide section down the center line of the top of the head from the fringe to the crown. Once you have decided on your shape use the fringe length as a guid to travel to the crown. you can then travel that guide to the right and the left of the head achieving the desired shape.

Bridging the gap: This is the point in the haircut where you are connecting the sides of the cut to the top of the cut. Once you have stair stepped up the side of the head you now bridge the gap between the two with 3 methods. clipper over comb, scissor over comb or you can use the next guard up "floating" off of the head to make sure you maintain head shape.

horizontal sections : this is designed for the top of the head. there can be 3-5 sections that run from ear to ear. do not make these more than 1" wide.

vertical sections: 3-5 sections that run from the front of the hairline to the back of the horse shoe.

Parietal Ridge : this is the ridge at the top of the side of the head where the head begins to curve inward.

Graduation : Going from shorter hair to longer hair on the side of the head

Over Directing: pulling a section of hair from its natural position backwards or forwards to maintain length

Freedom in the framework : The concept of moving within the CCS to achieve your desired style. We don't want to box people in, but we do need boundaries to accomplish consistency.

Horseshoe: usually at the natural recession points of the hairline towards the crown. A section for the top from the sides.

Bulk: referring to a majority of a section

Crown : the one area the growth pattern of the hair begins. Sometimes there can be two and sometimes three of these.

C Cup : the area next to the eyebrow that forms a "C" with the side burn.

Temple : The section in front of the ears that encompasses the side burn, C cup and upwards towards the ridge.

Triangle Section : This can be used for the bangs to preserve length, as well as above the occipital bone. Its a triangle

nape : the bottom of the hairline at the back of the head.

check points: these are designed stopping points that you and your team member have identified. They allow you to come into the haircut to make sure everything is on track.
